Cisterns are containers used to catch water flowing from the roof or other surfaces for storage. The collected water could then be used elsewhere in the garden when needed. Cistern comes from the Latin word cisterna " cista " or "box. Historically, most cisterns were made of lead due to the metal's durability, longevity and beauty. Today, they can be made of stone or metal and are usually large in size and are wonderful in a garden as a planter, a container, a table or a water feature.
