Wellheads

Wellheads are stone structures that surround water wells to keep a water source clean . Wellheads are usually tall enough to allow for a rope and bucket to be dropped into a well or spring to then be pulled up, to fetch water. Some wellheads have overthrows – metal work that is suspended over a well that holds a pulley and rope to raise and lower a bucket. Many wellheads have ruts from years of use where a rope or chain was pulled up by hand over the edge adding character to the piece. They can be a strong centerpiece element in any garden (or even used to hide an unsightly object in the garden!)
