Antique English salt glazed chimney pot with round vented crown top and tapered square body. Some black soot stains, made from a heavy dense stoneware, extremely durable. Circa 1900. Given age and use, in very good condition.
Chimney pots are centuries old. They were made to sit upon the roof on top of the chimney. It was an inexpensive way to extend the chimney shaft so that the smoke exited the home as far away as possible. These pots were typically made in the style of the home's architecture.
Today, they make wonderful garden ornaments. We have made ours into a tall planter with a glazed ceramic planter in the round crown top.
