Antique Staddle Stones Cornish

Antique staddle stones of varying sizes imported from England.  A selection of highly unique staddles carved in cornish stone from Cornwall, England.     Nice mossy growth

Found in England and northern Spain as far back as medieval times staddle stones were agricultural building supports.  They held up granaries, haystacks,     and beehives to protect them from small animals allow air circulation underneath.  Usually made of granite or sandstone they were carved from     whatever stone was available.  The word staddle comes from the Old English word stathol meaning base.  In German     the word stadal means barn.  In the US staddle stone were also used as boundary stones.  A staddle stone can be     placed in a woodland garden or a row of them can mark a border or entry way.
