Antique Staddle Stones Tall

Antique tall carved staddle stones imported from England.

Found in England and northern Spain as far back as medieval times staddle stones were agricultural building supports.  They held up granaries, haystacks, and beehives to protect them from small animals allow air circulation underneath.  Usually made of granite or sandstone they were carved from whatever stone was available.  The word staddle comes from the Old English word stathol meaning base.  In German the word stadal means barn.  In the US staddle stone were also used as boundary stones.
