Antique Gothic Stone Finials
ON HOLD UNTIL 12/13/19
Antique 16th century English Gothic limestone finials with ball top, chamfered octagonal neck with wide skirt and octagonal plinth base. Strong line and good proportions with hand-carving clearly evident in the shaft, skirt and reveals. The pair is believed to be originally from a demolished abbey/church in western England, dating back to the 16th -17th century, the late Gothic period.
Finials were used as the decorative uppermost point of a pinnacle, gable end, buttress or spire. In very good condition considering age and use. Restoration work on neck of one finial.
Imported from Gloucestershire, England.
