Antique Gothic Stone Finials

Antique 16th century English Gothic limestone finials with ball top, chamfered octagonal neck with wide skirt and octagonal plinth base. Strong line and good proportions with hand-carving clearly evident in the shaft, skirt and reveals. The pair is believed to be originally from a demolished abbey/church in western England, dating back to the 16th -17th century, the late Gothic period.

Finials were used as the decorative uppermost point of a pinnacle, gable end, buttress or spire. The pitting and weathering from rain and weather shows significant age, with an old small repair at base of one of the spheres.

Imported from England.
