Shy Girl Birdbath in Lead

This charming English lead shy girl combines the functionality of a bird bath with the aesthetic joys of a sculpture. The young girl is modeled in a pensive pose and she dips her toe into the water.

The use of water in the garden to nurture nature is seen most obviously in the use of a birdbath. With interest in gardening expanding to the upwardly mobile middle class in the 1800s more homeowners turned to gardening as a way to spend time outside and to increase their property values. Birdbaths were one of the first garden ornaments that were easily purchased and a simple, yet satisfying, focal point for a new garden.

Imported from England.
