Substantial English Lead Fountain Basin, early 20th C. This monumental beautifully aged and weathered deep round cistern fountain has well executed symbols of the 1707 Act of Union between Scotland and England, which formed Great Britain under Queen Anne, the last Stuart sovereign. The strap work is indicative of the late 17th - early 18th century decoration.
In the center is the Lead Dolphin Boy. The backside has full decorative detail. The young child is shown riding a dolphin on the surf. The water cascades down from the dolphin's spout to the shell overflows into the pool basin creating a lovely sound.
The soft palette of the aged lead distinguishes this important fountain. The depth of the fountain allows water to create wonderful resonant sound. When exposed to weather, lead will develop a beautiful grey patina that will last generations.
Imported from England.
